Janice G Martone

AGE: 67 • Toms River

Janice G. Martone, 67, of Toms River, passed away on February 19, 2012, at Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center one year after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Born in Kew Gardens, New York, on Valentine's Day in 1945, she spent her youth in Ocean Township, Monmouth County, graduating from Asbury Park High School. After her marriage to Joseph F. Martone in 1964, Janice lived in Notre Dame, Indiana, and Washington, DC, while her husband attended college and law school. Janice had a sense of humor that could brighten anyone's day. She was recognized to be a dedicated, hardworking and loyal employee and she taught those attributes to her children. Her early employment history was varied and included working in retail sales, bookkeeper, office staff member and U.S. Census worker. She then spent 25 years raising her children. During a number of those years she performed piece-work in manufacturing stained-glass lamps and other items in her brother Robert's business. In 1991 she began work with the State of New Jersey, Department of Treasury, Division of Taxation, handling and processing tax returns. She rose to the level of a supervisor in the Revenue Processing Section supervising up to 32 employees responsible for scanning and processing tax returns. Janice's deepest passion was her love and dedication to her family. Spending time at her frequent family gatherings or in her pool, or vacationing while surrounded by her children and nine beautiful grandchildren was her absolute greatest pleasure. In fact, her most recent trips were to Disney World with her husband, her daughters Michele and Jeannette with their husbands and the three youngest grandchildren. Like her parents before her, Janice's next greatest pleasure was traveling with her husband. They traveled extensively visiting virtually every country in Western Europe. Their trips to Hawaii, Italy, Sicily, along with European River Cruises and Caribbean Cruises were among her favorites. Janice is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Administrative Law Assignment Judge Joseph F. Martone; and by her proudest accomplishments: her four loving children, their spouses, and their children: Linda Charette and her husband Joseph and their sons, Erik, Keith and Kevin, Forked River, NJ; Joseph Martone and his wife Christine and their children, Alyssa, Julie and Christopher Joseph (C.J.), Toms River, NJ; Michele Martone and her husband James McGuire and their son Patrick, Manhattan, NY; and Jeannette Zuccarello, her husband, Michael, and their twin sons, Anthony and Justin, Toms River, NJ. Janice was predeceased by her beloved father, Frank C. Greb in 1985. She is survived by her most beloved mother, Gladys M. Greb, of Toms River, NJ and Crescent Beach, FL; her beloved brothers: Frank C. Greb Jr. and his wife Susan, Palm Coast, FL, and their daughter Nicole Collins and her husband Mark and their two children, Susan and Brendan, Chesterfield, NJ; and Robert Greb and his wife Amanda, son, Jakob, of New Port Richie, FL, and son Hans Ryan, Neptune, NJ; her beloved uncle William Greb, Reston, VA; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Jo Martone, Montclair, NJ, and their children Elizabeth, Michael and Timothy; her cousin Chris Fennell and husband Walt, Reston, VA, and their daughter, Dawn Worthington and her husband Scott, Oak Hill, VA; and her cousin Kathryn Perkins, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Treatment Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, New York 10065 or to Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Community Medical Center, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755-6423.
