In Memory

David Neville

OBITUARY FOR DAVID A. NEVILLE

David Allan Neville, 75, passed away on December 16, 2020 at Jersey Shore Hospital in Neptune, NJ. He fought pneumonia valiantly but in the end his heart just wasn't up to the task. Dave was a lifelong resident of Oakhurst, Ocean Township and graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1963. After briefly attending Villanova University, he proudly served in the United
States Navy during Vietnam, retiring in 1972. Shortly thereafter, he was to become his alter ego "Dave from The Pub," a title that he was known by for the remainder of his life. He was continually being recognized and remembered as the guy with the radio voice who ran the weddings, bar mitzvahs, and banquets at The Squires Pub in West Long Branch, NJ.
During his time at The Pub, Dave touched countless lives. Whether you were a bus boy, dish washer, or a "relish girl," a valet, bartender or server, he was always there with a kind word of encouragement or a drink after a hard day. He was the epitome of a hard worker who lived by the ideals of honesty, integrity, and respect. He taught all of us that it is better (and easier) to do it right the first time… every time. Dave's dedication extended well beyond the workplace, where it made a lasting impression and
told of the man he truly was. He was rarely absent from a soccer game, a band concert, swim meet, or softball game of one of his kids. He made us a priority above anything else and was always there. His career in the restaurant business didn't end with the closing of The Pub, however. He went on to manage The Pancake Grill and bartend at The Larchwood, and Nip 'n Tuck all in Long Branch, and also the Draughting Table in Bradley Beach. The last stop in his working career was a long stint as a Maintenance Mechanic for various Centra State assisted living facilities in Freehold, where he made many friends among the residents and his co-workers alike.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Joseph Neville and Marguerite Varela Neville of Oakhurst, and his brother Dennis Neville of Reno, NV; he is survived by his children Laura Neville and daughter-in-law Jean Gould of Wrightstown, NJ, Andy Neville and daughter-in-law Kim Hoffman Neville of Quakertown, PA, and Paula Neville of Oakhurst; his three grandchildren,
Kellyn, Jack, and Nina; and former wife Barbara Neville of Wanamassa. Due to the pandemic, there will not be any services at this time but a memorial will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Dave's long history and love of local restaurants and watering holes, please consider purchasing a gift card from your favorite restaurant for yourself or a loved
one. Alternatively, consider donating to the Gary Sinise Foundation to support our defenders, veterans, and first responders.

Was good friends with Dave at Wanamassa and Dow Ave; played a lot of stickball at my house and spent a lot of time fishing on Deal lake in our boat; was a rival in Little league and have great memories; the In Memoriam captures my memory of Dave; always easy going and never a tough time about anything; reading about his life says he left a positive mark which is what we all hope for....reat in peace

I met Dave in grammar school and remained friends for many years.  He was a "member" of a group of friends including Basil, Jimmy Busch, Ralph Apicelli, Lee Keirsted and others.  We had great times together.  He was always upbeat and ready for anything.

David was a great classmate and friend. Over the years I saw David from time to time and he was a source of fond memories. His passing creates another void in the journey of the memories I treasure of APHS
